(b) The department shall consider inclusion of the following as part of any nonlethal use of force training curricula developed pursuant to this section:

De-escalation in patrol tactics and interpersonal communication training, including tactical methods that use time, distance, cover, and concealment to avoid escalating situations that lead to violence;

Alternatives to jail booking, arrest, or citation in situations where appropriate;

Information regarding implicit and explicit bias, cultural competency, and the historical intersection of race and policing;

Skills, including de-escalation techniques, to effectively, safely, and respectfully interact with people with disabilities or behavioral health issues;

"Shoot/don't shoot" scenario training;

Alternatives to the use of physical or deadly force so that de-escalation tactics and nonlethal alternatives are part of the decision-making process leading up to the consideration of the use of deadly force;

Information regarding mental health and policing, including bias;

Use of specialized equipment for the deployment of nonlethal force.
(d) The department shall provide deputy sheriffs certified in nonlethal use of force with equipment, including weapons, that shall be used to deploy nonlethal force. The department shall include instruction on the use of this equipment during the department's nonlethal use of force training.
